City Selects LAN to Design Utility Improvement

The City of Tyler selected civil engineering firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) to design improvements to two of its sanitary sewer basins.

The city’s wastewater collection system includes more than 690 miles of sewer mains ranging in sizes from 6-in. to 54-in. in diameter, more than 9,000 manholes, and 24 sewage pump stations. Currently, nearly 50% of the existing sewer system is over 50 years old.

Smith & Loveless Redesigns Titan Membrane Bioreactor

Smith & Loveless’ redesign of the Titan MBR showcases the industry’s latest advancements in packaged MBRs. Enhanced with smart automation, touchscreen PLC controls, minimal O&M requirements and robust construction.

Available in several compact factory-built and packaged models that are pre-wired and shipped directly to the job-site, the new MBR results in quality effluent and a superior total cost of ownership.

New Safety Products From Rockwell Automation

New additions to the Rockwell Automation machine safety portfolio can help engineers right-size their safety systems while optimizing machine productivity, footprint and cost.

The expanded Allen-Bradley Compact GuardLogix 5380 controller family can now meet SIL 2/PLd to SIL 3/PLe safety requirements. This allows engineers to build safety systems to an application’s required safety level. The controllers are designed to meet the higher productivity, communications and security requirements of smart machines.

Rockwell Automation is also introducing new safety modules for the FLEX 5000 and Compact 5000 I/O product families. The new modules deliver improved safety response times, allowing engineers to move guarding devices closer to machines to reduce machine footprints. The safety modules are TÜV certified for use in safety applications up to SIL CL 3, PLe, Cat. 4.

Suez Water Technologies & Solutions Furthers Development in Taiwan

Suez has signed a 12- year industrial wastewater membrane service contract with Forest Water Environmental Engineering Co. Ltd. to increase operational efficiency and wastewater discharge water quality. The two parties also signed a MOU to jointly pursue reclaimed water opportunities in Taiwan in order to alleviate the pressure on conventional water sources and promote Taiwan’s water sustainability.

Having adopted Suez’s ZeeWeed MBR since 2016, the wastewater treatment plant of the Guanyin Industrial Park in Taoyuan city, operated by Forest Water Environmental Engineering Co., operates at a capacity of 25,000 m3 /day and has shown an excellent performance so far. This long-term contract for industrial wastewater membrane biological reactor service aims to optimize the efficiency and treatment results of the plant. The contract will help to further reduce operational risks and improve the operating efficiency of the plant while ensuring the quality of discharged water after treatment.

ITRI Introduces Three Green Technologies

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), introduces three green technologies. ITRI’s Portable UVC LED Water Sterilizer System is the world’s first solar-powered flow-water sterilizer that serves emergency purposes. The Energy-Saving Laser Descaling Agent Technology performs industrial and household surfaces cleaning without using water or chemical solvents, thus eliminating environmental pollution and health hazards.

Functional Dyeing Synchronized with CO2 Supercritical Technology is a single-bath supercritical fluid dyeing process for PET or blended elastic textiles, using supercritical carbon dioxide as the dyeing solvent instead of water. All three technologies are finalists for the 2018 R&D 100 Awards in the U. S.
