Pruitt to promote nation’s environmental, economic interests

Former Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt was confirmed and sworn in as the 14th administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). According to EPA, Pruitt plans to lead the agency in a way that advances the country's economic interests and ensures future generations will inherit a better and healthier environment

Most recently, Pruitt served as the attorney general for Oklahoma. He worked with his Democratic counterpart in Arkansas to reach an agreement to study the water quality of the Illinois River that crosses between the two states.

During his tenure as Oklahoma’s attorney general, Pruitt led a water rights settlement between the State of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City and the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations that preserved the ecosystems of scenic lakes and rivers on native lands. The agreement was signed into law in December 2016.

Before being elected attorney general, Pruitt served eight years in the Oklahoma State Senate. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown College and graduating from the University of Tulsa law school, Pruitt went into private legal practice, specializing in constitutional law. Pruitt also is a co-owner and managing general partner of the Oklahoma City RedHawks.

Pruitt and Marlyn Pruitt, his wife of 27 years, raised their daughter, McKenna, and son, Cade, in Tulsa, Okla.
