Emiliano Zapata, Mexico, facility adds aeration to achieve compliance with government regulation

The Municipality of Emiliano Zapata in the state of Morelos, Mexico, located 60 miles south of Mexico City, is in an area of great hydrological affluence. Zapata required a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to reduce pollution of the hydrological resources of the region. The city hired HidroIndustrial S.A. de C.V. to build a wastewater treatment plant with the capacity to treat 30 liters per second of wastewater and provide an effluent with no contaminants to be used for public services or human contact, according to Mexican regulation.

Solution

To achieve such a system, HidroIndustrial S.A. de C.V. contracted with Environmental Dynamics International (EDI) for help with the project. EDI worked within its parameters and provided the aeration system for the activated sludge plant.

EDI’s MiniPanel fixed-grid system called for EPDM membranes with a 1.25-by-1.25-mm perforation. This system design allows for simple installation and maintenance of the aeration equipment. The system’s capabilities met all project requirements.

Results

HidroIndustrial S.A. de C.V. saved both time and money due to the easy installation of EDI’s aeration system. Zapata municipality received an efficient system to perform the desired treatment with low maintenance issues. The WWTP performed the desired objectives and achieved an effluent that met Mexican regulations.

“No installation problem was found [with EDI’s products],” said M. Medrano, project director. “All went fine because of the ease of the installation, and all the support given [by EDI.]”
