CH2M HILL Names Team Leader and Technology Director

CH2M HILL, a full-service engineering, construction, and operations firm, has named Patrick Karney, P.E., DEE, as vice president/new global wastewater service team leader, and Julian Sandino, Ph.D., P.E., assistant director of technology for the firm's Global Water Business Group (WBG) as a core member of the global wastewater service team.

In their new positions, Karney and Sandino will partner together on a number of the firm's WBG strategic client initiatives.

As the global wastewater service team leader, Karney will focus on developing and implementing strategies for meeting wastewater client needs, integrating business development with the technology practice, and establishing a significant presence in the marketplace via participation in national boards and societies.

Operating out of CH2M HILL's Jacksonville office, Karney brings more than 25 years of experience managing publicly-owned wastewater treatment systems. Prior to joining CH2M HILL in 2005, he was director of the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) of Greater Cincinnati. He also has held management positions with public utilities including plant superintendent with Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District and wastewater division chief with the City of Jacksonville, Fla. In the 1990s, Karney served as deputy director of the Water Environment Federation.

As vice president, assistant director of technology and wastewater treatment fellow, Julian Sandino brings more than 20 years of experience leading and assisting multi-disciplinary teams in sanitary infrastructure and environmental projects throughout the world, including process evaluation and design for a wide variety of wastewater treatment facilities.

In his new position, Sandino will assist in the strategic planning process for the wastewater service team and the firm’s Global WBG. In addition, he will support all service team functions and provide leadership and expertise in WBG project delivery, staffing and technology innovation.
