The recent hurricanes have impacted a number of chemical feed and water treatment systems at municipal and industrial treatment facilities throughout Florida and the Gulf Coast. Recognizing the urgency of continuous chlorination, USFilter Wallace & Tiernan Products rushed several chemical feed and water treatment replacement systems to the affected communities during the past few weeks. In each instance, USFilter fulfilled the order within a matter of days to keep the treatment plants operational.
"These have been extenuating circumstances, and we've done everything we could to help not only our distributors but also our product end-users," says Randy Otts, regional sales manager at USFilter Wallace & Tiernan Products.
One such request came from a large refinery located in Pascagoula, Miss. After discovering it could no longer chlorinate its process water supply, the refinery placed an order for a complete V2000 gas chlorination system, contingent on a three-day delivery. The units were engineered, built and shipped within the three-day period.
"Time is money," says Paul Kelly of J.H. Carter, USFilter Wallace & Tiernan Products' Baton Rouge, La.-based distributor. "When a chlorination or chemical feed system is down, it costs our customers money, both in terms of lost business and regulatory fines. And with municipal plants, there are also possible health ramifications. So we do everything we can to make sure our customers remain operational, with minimal disruption."
The storms also overwhelmed and flooded chemical metering pumps and residual chlorine analyzers at the Naval Air Station's wastewater treatment plant in Pensacola, Fla. The Station placed an order for four new Micro/2000 residual chlorine analyzers that were shipped and built the same day the factory received the order. The Naval Air Station also requested several replacement Encore 700 diaphragm metering pumps for methanol feed application.
To expedite the pump order, Chip Ross of Water Treatment and Controls, USFilter's Florida distributor, kept in close contact with the factory and the customers at the Naval Air Station.
"The folks at Wallace & Tiernan Products were extremely helpful during and after the hurricanes," Ross says. "Our strong relationship allowed us to meet the customers' critical needs under some very trying circumstances."
To further help his customers, Ross also used USFilter's Pump Quick Ship Program. According to Manor Parikh, global technology business manager at Wallace & Tiernan Products, the program is specially designed and geared to satisfy customer requirements within 24 hours, for water and wastewater chemical feed applications of up to 180 gallons-per-hour.
