Xylem Relocates Hundreds of Pumps to Prepare for Hurricane Joaquin

The company is relocating dewatering pump inventory to New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia

Xylem Inc. has activated a deployment initiative to move several hundred of its portable Godwin pumps from nearby states to prepare customers along the East Coast for the arrival of Hurricane Joaquin. Xylem’s operations teams are moving the pumps into position to remove unwanted floodwaters from impacted communities and businesses at a moment’s notice.

The National Weather Service has issued coastal flood warnings for areas along the Atlantic coastline. Some areas could reportedly see as much as one to two feet of rain. While the path of Hurricane Joaquin is uncertain, flooding from rainfall has exceeded daily records in New England, and the Carolinas are experiencing coastal flooding.

Xylem’s teams have been working since Sept. 29 to relocate dewatering pump inventory from seven nearby states to send to areas most likely to be impacted, including New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia. Some of the pumps have come from as far as Montana and Florida.

“We answer the phone at any hour to help our customers who are preparing to mitigate storm damage,” said Mike Delzingaro, VP of Sales and Branch Operations for Xylem’s pump rental business. “We have a lot of experience with tough storms like this.”
