The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) announced that it approved $5,696,000 in financial assistance for a wastewater improvement project in the City of Leonard.

The city will use the funding for the planning, design, and construction of an improvement project for its wastewater system. The city will replace approximately six miles of clay pipe with new PVC pipe and will either install two new lift stations or rehabilitate its existing lift stations.

The assistance consists of $2,850,000 in financing and $2,846,000 in principal forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund. TWDB estimates that the city could save approximately $1,600,000 over the life of the loan by using the fund’s loan.

At the same time as funding was announced for the wastewater project, TWDB also announced the approval of $10,999,860 for a flood improvement project and $300,000 for a drinking water system improvement project.

The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects. The TWDB is also the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans.
