Lead Service Line Inventory & Replacement for Water Utilities

Feb. 3, 2022
BlueConduit’s Greg Baird breaks down lead service line inventory and replacement for water utilities.

On Dec. 16, 2021, the Lead & Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) went into effect, requiring utilities to meet several new requirements as it relates to lead and copper pipe in their distribution networks. Chief among the requirements is lead service line (LSL) inventory and replacement. Throughout all of 2021, the message to utilities was to begin this inventory prior to the law going into effect, but now compliance is a reality and utilities need to complete the work.

In this video interview, BlueConduit National Lead Service Line Inventory and Replacement Executive Director Greg Baird explains what utilities are currently required to do on this front, barriers that exist in getting work done, technologies that can help and the vital role trust, transparency and communications will play in relaying this information to the public — another requirement of the LCRR.
