Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) treats wastewater from the Milwaukee metropolitan area and surrounding municipalities at the Jones Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. Cyclones that remove airborne dust from dryers were showing wear on their interior walls, and MMSD installed Abresist abrasion-resistant basalt tiles in 2002. The tiles prevent abrasive wear and are anticipated to lengthen the cyclones’ operating life by 20 years.
