Explosion-Proof Smoke Detector Meets Fire Protection Standards for Wastewater

Unit can easily be integrated into process control systems
Feb. 27, 2018

The Det-Tronics SmokeWatch U5015 explosion-proof smoke detector enables wastewater treatment and collection facilities to meet the latest National Fire Protection Assn. 820 fire protection standards. Updated in 2016, the standard (8.3.8.2) now requires smoke detectors in the ductwork of higher-velocity air supply and exhaust systems. The standard also calls for the ability to shut down the ventilation system upon detection of smoke. These detectors carry FM 3230 certification for smoke detection.

The SmokeWatch U5015 is rated for the Class I Division 1 & 2 locations found in wastewater applications. The unit can be installed with the Q5016 duct mount accessory for smoke detection in ventilation system ductwork. When connected to process controls, the detector can initiate smoke-control procedures such as fan shutdown and fire damper operation. This can prevent smoke from causing bodily harm or inducing panic, as well as reduce the potential for fire spreading through the HVAC system.

The SmokeWatch U5015 is easy to integrate into process control systems or a conventional fire panel through 0-20 mA and relay outputs. Through its self-checking circuitry, the detector communicates its health status by conducting automatic optical and electrical failsafe checks every second.
