Pump Needs Evolve

March 29, 2007

In the water and wastewater industries, pumps play a critical role in the day-to-day operation of a treatment facility. Without this integral piece of equipment, your system would be rendered inoperable.

Manufacturers of pumps are keenly aware of the important role pumps play in the industry; therefore many are including service and maintenance programs, including onsite assistance and spare parts to accommodate basic pump-related needs.

Additionally, as the demand for pumps increases due to the retrofitting and construction of new water and wastewater plants around the globe, so do the operator’s demands placed on these pumps as issues such as life cycle costs, energy savings potential and longer equipment life garner increased attention.

Despite the recent advances in pump-related technology, the majority of you understand that budget constraints will likely have you operating the pumps currently installed in your treatment plant for as long as functionally possible. Of course, this means you also will have to address these pumps when they incur problems and complications that prohibit operation.

An integral part of your pump maintenance program should be our annual supplemental publication, the Pump Source. Now in its fifth year, the Pump Source continues to offer a wide variety of technical papers, case studies, and pump-related products and services, each of which offer valuable insight into relative and detailed pump-related applications.

New in this year’s Pump Source is columnist Doug Bartholomew, whose extensive experience involving pumps in the water and wastewater industries is detailed in a helpful article at the conclusion of this publication.

As always, we continue to update the editorial content within our Pump Zone at our website (WWDmag.com) on a regular basis. Here, you can find technical papers and case studies examining a wide variety of pump-related applications complimenting the content you find here in the Pump Source.

Finally, rounding out our pump editorial offerings is our monthly Pump Source E-Newsletter, which also includes new and archived technical articles, as well as a wide variety of news, products and services. If you would like to receive the Pump Source E-Newsletter please contact me and I will be sure to have you added to our growing list of subscribers.

As I mentioned earlier, pumps play a key factor in the day-to-day operation of your facility. We aim to provide regular, detailed pump-related editorial content that you can reference, whatever your pump needs may be.
