undefinedIn 2019, Franklin Miller is celebrating 100 years of business in the water and wastewater industry. WWD Managing Editor Bob Crossen discussed this anniversary with Franklin Miller President William Galanty and Franklin Miller General Manager Jake Galanty, who noted this milestone is a testament to the company’s culture and values. The questions below were originally posed by Crossen to William and Jake.
Congratulations on 100 years! To what do you attribute this success?
William Galanty: A combination of the size reduction experience gained over many years, a commitment to our customers and our family work ethic has played a critical role in our success. Our combination of experience in both dry solids processing and liquid—or pressure seal systems—has made us uniquely capable of solving many difficult customer process problems. We have many design features that set our equipment apart along with the top notch quality and American manufacturing.
Jake Galanty: We, at Franklin Miller, pride ourselves on our company values and great employees, along with a serious commitment to customer service. Our family values in business and the entrepreneurial spirit of our company have helped us achieve long-running success in the industry.
How does Franklin Miller foster a culture to support that success?
William: Franklin Miller puts a premium value on our customers and our staff. We believe in treating people with the utmost professionalism and care, resulting in employee retention and repeat customers.
Jake: Not only does this ensure happy, repeat customers, but many employees have been with the company for many years. Our employees have great experience and that helps keep Franklin Miller a leader in the industry.
What have been the biggest changes to the company in its 100-year history?
William: We have seen a lot of growth over the years. The company started a century ago with a single machine–ice crushers. We now manufacture full lines of grinders, shredders, crushers, screens and full systems for dozens of industries worldwide.
How has technology changed the company over time (manufacturing, distributing, development of products, etc.)?
William: Computerized processing and engineering technology has made some very positive changes to our overall manufacturing process. 3D CAD engineering software, for example, allows us to build, fit and test a design before even touching a piece of metal. Other advancements in manufacturing have really had an impact on our processes as well, such as CNC manufacturing, digital inspection equipment, and computer production planning.
Jake: The internet has changed the way we reach customers and potential customers, too, allowing digital communications to be part of our outreach and marketing strategies. This worldwide communication has also led to increased manufacturing and distribution, opening up the world in terms of giving us a greater reach to customers across the globe.
How does the company’s history and legacy inform its future?
William: We are excited about continuing our long tradition of company and customer values. The next generation has recently joined our family business and we plan to continue with our mission of hard work, creativity, ingenuity and valuing workers, staff and customers to take us into the future.
