The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) approved $82 million in low-interest loans and $12 million in grants for 31 drinking water, wastewater and stormwater projects to serve communities in 22 counties across the Commonwealth.
The grants, provided under the "Growing Greener" initiative, were targeted at 10 prohibitively expensive projects to bring them within the financial reach of their customers.
The state funding approved at today's PENNVEST Board meeting ranges from $185,100 to construct a new well and related equipment that will allow a community in Clinton County to abandon the use of contaminated streams, to $9.58 million to construct major improvements to a drinking-water treatment facility in Chester County that currently is unable to provide adequate treatment for the system's customers.
The funding for these projects brings PENNVEST'S total funding for community water and sewer projects to more than $2.8 billion since the program's inception.
