Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Celebrates 100th Year with Mayor James Hahn and All of Los Angeles
Feb. 5, 2002

Mayor James Hahn will join Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Board commissioners and executives on Thursday, February 7 to celebrate the Department's 100th anniversary.

To commemorate its century of service to the City of Los Angeles, the Department will celebrate its anniversary on the spot where the city water delivery system began, Olvera Street. The delivery of water and electricity helped transform a small pueblo into the nation's second largest city. This celebration also highlights the service of LADWP employees over the last 100 years.

The celebration, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the 800 block of North Alameda Street (across from Union Station) in Los Angeles, Calif., will showcase LADWP's service to Los Angeles and highlight some of the Department's most notable projects, including the Los Angeles Aqueduct. Mayor Jim Hahn; President of the Water and Power Commission Kenneth Lombard; LADWP General Manager David Wiggs; and City Council Member Ruth Galanter will be in attendance.
