Court Issues Ruling in Allegheny Ludlum Clean Water Case

Feb. 22, 2002

Allegheny Technologies Incorporated received a decision in the 1995 civil case under the Clean Water Act that the U.S. Government brought against its wholly owned subsidiary, Allegheny Ludlum, in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. The Government had asked for a penalty of $12.3 million and the Court imposed a penalty of approximately $8.2 million.

"Under the circumstances, we are extremely surprised and disappointed with the amount of the penalty and are reviewing our options for appeal," said Jon D. Walton, senior vice president, chief legal and administrative officer of Allegheny Technologies.
