United Water's Atlanta Fate to Be Decided

Jan. 20, 2003

Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin will decide this week whether to keep United Water as the city’s private water provider.

The city has received numerous consumer complaints against United, which has 16 more years on its contract with the city.

The company recently guaranteed that it will not increase fees until 2006 in hopes of keeping the contract.

The city of Atlanta pays United more than $21 million a year for the water services.
