Trojan Technologies, Inc., has received an order valued at $10.9 million (CDN$16 million) for an ultraviolet wastewater disinfection system to be installed at the Valley Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant near Birmingham, Alabama.
The contract calls for the delivery of eight Trojan UV4000Plus(TM) units which, when operational, will treat up to 600 million gallons (2.3 million cubic metres) of wastewater a day. The construction schedule for the plant is still being finalized but the UV systems are expected to be delivered during 2004.
The consulting engineering firm of F.W. Dougherty and Associates of Birmingham, Alabama, is responsible for the overall project design. Brasfield and Gorrie LLC, also of Birmingham, was awarded the construction contract to install the UV systems.
"As well, UV is a chemical-free treatment. It is environmentally friendly and far safer than having to stockpile large amounts of chlorine," the engineers said.
