Vancouver police are warning residents to watch out for thieves posing as water inspectors.
The suspects pose as employees of a water district checking for malfunctioning water wells.
Some residents say they were given flyers from a legitimate water district, but none of the individuals described are employees of that company nor was that company conducting work in the Vancouver area.
According to police, at least two people took part in the scam, gaining access to the victims' homes and then taking cash while pretending to test the water in the house and outside.
The suspects in this incident are described as white males, 20 to 30 years old, possibly driving a newer large red truck.
Police warn before letting anyone in, residents should request photo identification showing the name of the person and the company they represent. Then contact the company to confirm both the identity of the employees and that work is being conducted in the area. And, most importantly, do not leave workers unattended while they are in the home.
