The Proposition 84 campaign announced that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has endorsed the Clean Water, Parks and Coastal Protection Bond of 2006.
The $5.4 billion bond measure, slated for the November 2006 California statewide ballot, would provide funds to ensure the availability of safe drinking water, improve local water supply reliability, strengthen flood protection, and preserve California's natural landscapes, including parks, lakes, rivers, beaches, bays, ocean and coastline.
"This initiative ensures that the environment remains a key component of California's Strategic Growth Plan. Proposition 84 will help preserve California's incredible coastline and natural resources for generations to come. This measure also provides essential funding to help ensure our water supply is clean, reliable, and safe and will help protect our communities from flooding. I look forward to working with environmental and legislative leaders to build on this initiative to expand California's water supply infrastructure. In the meantime, I ask the people of California to join me in supporting this important investment in the future of our great state," said Governor Schwarzenegger.
"We are extremely pleased to have the Governor's support for Proposition 84," said Michael Mantell, campaign chairman for Proposition 84. "Not only will Proposition 84 generate significant benefits at the statewide level, it provides an unprecedented and much needed funding opportunity for local regions throughout all of California."
