AWWA’s new webcast, “Energy Optimization is Smart Business,” will help utilities raise their energy awareness level and shift their operating mode from reactive to proactive. The webcast is scheduled for Wednesday, August 2, 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Eastern, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Pacific.
Energy efficiency is an ongoing process, not a one-time action, and utilities that have implemented optimization in their operations, including energy optimization, find themselves positioned on the cutting edge of the water and wastewater industry.
During this webcast, staff members of two state-of-the-art utilities who have implemented energy optimization practices will share their experience with optimization programs. They will explain how they found the level of skill and knowledge of their operators to be “head and shoulders” above operators at utilities that are still in a reactive mode, with some achieving higher levels of certification.
Utilities who realize energy and operations optimization view these practices as a window of opportunity to the potential industry-wide staffing shortage whereby the utility is applying technologies that will be less labor intensive but require higher skill sets. New technology involved with optimization practices demonstrates the need to have good technical people on hand to ensure the systems function properly.
