Oahu Faces Brown Water Advisory After Sewage Spills, Storms

Nov. 3, 2006

Heavy rains in Oahu have led to four different wastewater spills in Oahu.

3,000 gallons spilled from the Kaneohe Preliminary Treatment Facility into the Kaneohe Bay, and 500 gallons spilled out of a sew manhole near the Bay. 900 gallons of untreated water came out of a manhole on Lilipuna Road.

KHNL News reported that the state has issued “brown water advisory” due to earlier flash flood warning. The warnings advised people to stay away from murky ocean water that could be polluted with waste from overflowing sewers and septic systems.

The advisory will remain for the next few days.
