Approximately 20,000 gals of treated sewage seeped out from a wastewater treatment plant in Algonquin, Ill., after a tank cover failed.
According to the Chicago Tribune, a similar incident in December caused a spill of 10,000 gals of treated sewage.
The spill was contained where it occurred at Illinois Highway 31 and Wilbrandt Street. Jenna Kollings, Assistant Village Manager, told the Chicago Tribune that there were no environmental or safety hazards.
The Chicago Tribune reports that cold weather could have been a factor in both spills.
