Officials with the county Department of Public Works and Environmental Management in Hawaii have reported that wastewater from a sewage spill on Monday in Waiehu does not appear to have reached the ocean.
According to the Honolulu Advertiser, the spill happened when an unknown quantity of wastewater overflowed from a valve box into a drainage culvert on Lower Waiehu Beach Road. Officials have said that the problem was a result of a broken air-relief valve on a force main.
The county also announced that tests related to a different sewage spill Friday in Kahului have also indicated that no wastewater reached the ocean. That spill was a result of a broken force main.
