Bord na Móna Environmental Products U.S., Inc. recently announced that its parent company had been awarded contracts to install nearly $2.5 million in odor control treatment solutions in Italy and the United Kingdom.
“Odor emitted from wastewater treatment processes is increasingly a concern as populations grow and housing encroaches upon once-remote treatment facilities,” Keaney said. “Bord na Móna’s biological systems for odor and VOC treatment have set the standard for performance and environmental sustainability since 1995 when the technology was first deployed in systems throughout Europe. These new contracts being announced today reinforce the success of the technology in treating odors emitted from wastewater and composting processes and VOCs from industrial facilities.”
Having recently completed a fourth installation in Rome with a contract value of $1.5 million, Bord na Móna are now treating a million cu meters per hour of air in four wastewater treatment plants in Rome. The United Kingdom contract was awarded by British Steel to provide air-cleaning systems for solvent emissions from the company’s painting plants.
Other international projects of note in the last year include an installation on a large pumping station (Northpoint) in Hong Kong, a large MÓNASHELL installation in Barcelona, Spain, and a number of installations with SIAAP, the body responsible for operating wastewater treatment plants in France.
According to Keaney, the company’s biological odor control systems, featuring either crushed peat or seashells, are designed to deliver significant, environmentally responsible benefits for wastewater pumping stations, wastewater treatment works, sludge-handling and treatment processors, municipal solid waste and composting centers, as well as VOC reduction at various industrial facilities.
A new Bord na Mona Innovation Center is being built adjacent to the Greensboro, N.C., municipal wastewater treatment facility. “This center will showcase our full range of technologies, allow for third-party verification and enable increased research, development and optimization of new water reuse, wastewater and odor technologies.”
