NIMS guidance is designed to help utilities implement emergency preparedness and response program
July 31, 2009

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Water Security program has developed a new document, “Water Sector National Incident Management System Implementation Objectives,” designed to help water utilities implement the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS is a program the Department of Homeland Security developed to produce a unified system for emergency preparedness and response for state, local and tribal governments.

The document explains NIMS and the 17 implementation objectives for the water sector. They cover preparedness planning, training, exercises, communications and information management, command and management and ongoing management and maintenance.

The guidance is available here.
