Company has supplied wastewater holding tanks to Algaewheel Technologies

Oldcastle Precast, a manufacturer of precast and polymer concrete in the United States, and part of Oldcastle, Inc., the U.S. arm of international building materials company CRH, reported that it has supplied wastewater holding tanks to Algaewheel Technologies, LLC, for retaining 120,000 gal worth of wastewater on a wastewater-to-renewable energy project in Reynolds, Ind.

“This was a great opportunity for Oldcastle to be part of a first-of-a-kind facility being built by Thieneman Construction and Algaewheel Technologies,” said Steve Kingsland of Oldcastle Precast’s National Sales, Marketing & Engineering Group. “Similar to the nutrient removal pilot facility Thieneman and Algaewheel built for the Town of Hopewell, Virginia, during 2009, the algae-based wastewater technology being used by the Reynolds, Indiana, facility is identical to that used in our green line of packaged plants and decentralized wastewater treatment systems.”

The Algaewheel facility for Reynolds (also known as Bio-Town), is replacing the town’s aging lagoon wastewater treatment system. Algae biomass from the facility will be thermally processed on site to generate energy for powering the wastewater plant.

According to Mark Bauer, environmental product specialist for Oldcastle Precast’s Hartford City plant, Oldcastle supplied six 20,000-gal tanks in the fall of 2009 with an additional three tanks slated for phase 2 in the future. The facility started operation in early 2010.
