Bluewater Bio International, a global wastewater treatment specialist, announced the completion of its acquisition of Water Innovate, a technology transfer spinout from Cranfield University School of Water Sciences.
With the acquisition of Water Innovate now complete, Bluewater Bio will roll out Water Innovate’s proven technology portfolio commercially. Water Innovate’s N-Tox toxicity monitoring system, for example, provides early warning of plant stress or failure, enabling water company customers to meet their legal responsibilities for monitoring and controlling water and wastewater treatment performance while minimising waste, energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Bluewater Bio also is developing N-Tox into a range of products for wider biological process monitoring and control and minimisation of a range of greenhouse gases arising from wastewater treatment.
Bluewater Bio’s flagship HYBACS wastewater treatment process recently was awarded Greenlight status by UK Trade & Investment’s Global Entrepreneur Programme as a “Technology of Exceptional Potential,” and the company is committed to continuous technical development and innovation.
While the Water Innovate transaction delivers benefits with immediate potential due to the acquisition of its existing technology portfolio, it also builds out Bluewater Bio’s research and development platform both in terms of the addition of Water Innovate’s own technical capability and the ability to undertake technical study with Cranfield collaboratively. This will facilitate further product improvements in Water Innovate’s portfolio or any water and wastewater technologies which may be acquired in the future by Bluewater Bio.
Under the terms of the agreement, Bluewater Bio benefits from a right of first refusal for five years on the commercialisation of water- or wastewater-related technologies that may be independently developed pre-commercially by Cranfield.
