New Tool Predicts Chemical Concentrations in Waterways

ACI plans webinar to introduce iSTREEM tool

The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) announced a new tool that will help forecast chemical concentrations in U.S. waterways.

ACI is offering a free webinar Jan. 13, 2011, to outline iSTREEM, a web-based computer model that will predict the concentration of a chemical used in "down-the-drain" products at the discharge of more than 12,000 wastewater treatment plants, at the intake of downstream municipal drinking water treatment facilities and in approximately 28,000 river reaches covering over 200,000 river miles across the continental United States.

"iSTREEM is a valuable new tool to promote product stewardship and regulatory compliance for chemical suppliers and manufacturers of formulated products of all sizes," said Dr. Paul DeLeo, ACI's senior director of environmental safety.

The model has been scaled at both the national level (e.g., approximately 28,000 river reaches covering over 200,000 river miles) and at the regional/watershed scales (e.g., the Trinity River in Texas or Willamette River in Oregon).

Attendees will be provided access to iSTREEM for future use (at no cost) along with the underlying principles of its development and the necessary training to run simulations and manipulate the generated output.

Presenters will include DeLeo, Dr. Scott Dyer of Procter & Gamble and Dr. Xinhao Wang of the University of Cincinnati.

The webinar will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. EST. To reserve a spot, visit https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/379362435.
