Siemens to Provide Membrane Filtration Systems for Arizona Water Campus

Dec. 14, 2010
Membranes are part of expansion of Scottsdale water treatment facility

Archer Western Contractors has awarded Siemens Water Technologies with a $7 million contract to supply 11 Memcor CP membrane filtration systems for the city of Scottsdale, Ariz., Water Campus Advanced Water Treatment (AWT) Facility expansion. The membrane systems will provide Scottsdale with additional capacity within the existing Water Campus building footprint. Siemens also will provide unit control panels and membrane system programming. System installation is scheduled to be completed by August 2011.

The AWT Facility expansion will help meet the increased water reuse supply demands in Scottsdale for the foreseeable future. The new system will be utilized as pretreatment to reverse osmosis for treating wastewater that will be used for both aquifer recharge and irrigation of local golf courses. Each membrane system skid will consist of 222 membrane modules, and will produce a combined total flow rate of 23.5 million gal per day (88.9 million liters per day). The 1.8-meter tall polyvinylidene fluoride membrane modules increase the filtrate capacity by over 50% compared to the earlier generation of Memcor pressurized membrane modules. Its compact modular design allows the system to be easily modified and expanded, and takes up roughly 70% less space than conventional water treatment systems.

With this project, the city of Scottsdale and Siemens continue a long-standing partnership that also included the supply of five Memcor CP systems in 2009 for drinking water treatment.
