EPA Grants $462,000 to Kansas Town for Drinking Water System

Project will extend drinking water service to customers who currently use well water
Jan. 25, 2011

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $462,000 to the city of Manhattan, Kan., for an extension of its drinking water system. The construction project is expected to be completed by summer 2012.

“Clean drinking water is essential for the residents of the Konza Valley area near Manhattan, Kan. These water infrastructure funds will partially fund the construction project, which is estimated to cost $1.4 million,” said EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks.

The project will extend drinking water service to an area currently served by an inadequate groundwater well.

The drinking water construction project will include approximately 10,200 ft of 16-in. water line. It will provide the Konza Valley with a safe and reliable source of drinking water and improved fire protection.
