American Water Names New Vice President of Corporate Communications, External Affairs

Maureen Duffy will lead the company's strategic and integrated communications program

American Water Works Co. Inc. recently announced Maureen Duffy as vice president of corporate communications and external affairs. In this role, she will lead the company’s strategic and integrated communications program, encompassing internal and external communications as well as corporate responsibility. With more than 15 years of communications leadership experience, Duffy is instrumental in increasing American Water’s visibility and reputation among key stakeholders. She oversees the alignment and integration of company messaging across all functions and operations throughout the business. Most recently, she served as the executive director of corporate communications and external affairs, leading the company’s internal and external communications. In previous positions, she led American Water's external communication efforts, including national media relations, and served as director of internal communications where she realigned the internal communications team to drive its strategic direction. Duffy also served in the communications function for New Jersey American Water and Long Island American Water where she was responsible for internal and external communications as well as government affairs. Duffy launched her career with WNJN/WNET-TV, reporting and producing news for audiences in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia. She also anchored the weekend updates for the station. She is a graduate of the University of Delaware where she received a bachelor's degree in communications. Duffy is also an active member of the National Assn. of Water Companies, serving on its communication committee.
