The Regional Water Technology Innovation Cluster (WTIC) will be held on Jan. 18, 2012, at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Cincinnati to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the event and learn about regional efforts to advance water technology research, development and commercialization.
Lek Kadeli, deputy assistant administrator for EPA's Office of Research and Development, will provide a keynote, and Alan Vicory, chair of the WTIC Board of Directors, will highlight progress and accomplishments over the past year. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has also been invited to address the group and representatives from local technology companies will share success stories in building regional water technology partnerships.
EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson and SBA Administrator Karen Mills launched the WTIC in southwestern Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeastern Indiana on Jan. 18, 2011. Over the past year, EPA, WTIC and others have come together to build on regional capabilities, resources and successes to help meet the demand for water technologies that address today's environmental challenges.
Four WTIC work groups have formed to advance water technology development and commercialization, including a work group to develop multi-state testing protocols and a network of test beds for evaluating water technologies. Collaborative events have helped to achieve successful proposal development and foster water technology innovation, and cooperative research agreements are in development between EPA and local companies to jointly develop new water technologies.
