Induron purchased and renovated a 17,500-sq-ft facility adjacent its current location on Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North for a new customer service center and additional warehouse space. Induron’s expansion allows for a 50% increase in production square footage and a 150% increase in production capacity, and will triple its throughput. The company will add five new employees over the next 18 months.
“This is a landmark expansion for Induron and it blazes a path for the company in the next half century in Birmingham,” said Davies Hood, president of the company. “With a more efficient operation, streamlined processes and increased quality controls in this expansion, the focus on our customers only sharpens.”
Induron was founded in 1947 by William E. Hood and Louis A. Prosch Jr., who were determined to manufacture rust-inhibitive primers for the booming steel fabrication industry in Birmingham. By the 1960s, its expansion into industrial primers and finishes included industrial maintenance coatings, OEM finishes and architectural paints.
“Induron has been at home in our city for more than six decades and during all those years the company has been an important part of our North Birmingham neighborhood and the surrounding business community,” said Birmingham Mayor William A. Bell Sr. “The city will always work in partnership with expanding businesses throughout the area to help them realize their potential, while remaining focused on neighborhood stability and revitalization.”
Induron worked closely with the City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, the Alabama Department of Commerce and the Birmingham Business Alliance to seek approval for the Alabama Enterprise Zone Tax Credit and statutory incentives for its expansion, which will provide standard abatements on sales and use, and property taxes.
Fred McCallum, president of AT&T Alabama and chairman of the BBA, also was at the ribbon cutting and congratulated Induron on its expansion.
