IDE Technologies announced its expansion in the Latin American water industry with its new office in Chile. IDE has appointed Rodrigo Turra country sales director.

Turra brings 18 years of management and business development experience in the water industry, which he will leverage to increase awareness and sales throughout Latin America for IDE’s small-to-large-scale membrane and thermal desalination solutions as well as its industrial water treatment solutions.

“A rapidly-growing market with many water-challenged regions, Latin America is turning to our eco-friendly and cost-effective desalination solutions to assure reliable and continuous access to high-quality water,” said Avshalom Felber, CEO of IDE Technologies. “With our new office in Chile and bringing on a talented manager with success in the Latin American water industry, we are positioned to expand our footprint in this key market.”

Chile is the world’s leading producer of copper, and with the expansion of new mines, there is an increased need for water in areas with water scarcity. By increasing its presence in Chile, which has a strong economy and high external investment rate, IDE is set to help meet this need through projects that desalinate seawater on the coast and pump the water to the mining operation.

Prior to joining IDE, Turra was the business development manager at Seven Seas Water, managing the development of build-own-operate and build-own-operate-transfer new business in Chile. In this role, he generated more than 20 seawater desalination and water reuse project opportunities. In addition, Turra was senior account manager of GE Power & Water, where he was responsible for maintaining existing business as well as generating new opportunities.

“I am excited to join IDE and help expand the company’s presence in Latin America, where the growth potential for advanced water desalination solutions is significant,” Turra said.
