American Water Employees Raise $219,000 for Water For People

This was the company's most successful employee-giving campaign since partnering with the organization

American Water announced that the company and its employees have raised a record-setting $219,326 for Water For People, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing access to improved water and sanitation systems and services in developing countries.

With a 26% increase from last year, this was American Water’s most successful employee-giving campaign since the company has been partnering with the organization. In addition to financial donations, American Water employees volunteered to raise money in several creative ways, including basketball games, dunk tanks, silent auctions, cookouts and bake sales, all of which enable Water For People to get closer to its goal to provide access to clean water.

“American Water has a long history of supporting Water For People and we are fortunate to have such generous employees with a wonderful giving spirit,” said Sharon Cameron, president of American Water Enterprises and senior executive sponsor of the company’s Water For People employee giving campaign. “There is no question of why we support this organization. Water For People’s mission echoes American Water’s commitment to building a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation. I am once again humbled by our employees’ generosity and passion. Their amazing support demonstrates how much they care about others throughout the world.”

“As one of our largest employee-giving campaigns to date, American Water’s tremendous support for Water For People is beyond inspiring," said Sue Dorsey, CFO at Water For People. “Reaching everyone forever definitely isn’t easy, but we know it is possible thanks to incredible partnerships like this that give employees the opportunity to give back and take ownership of their contributions.”
