Hatch Mott MacDonald Names Managing Director of West Unit

Oct. 6, 2015
Tony Purdon succeeds John Townsend, effective Oct. 1

Tony Purdon, executive vice president of Hatch Mott MacDonald (HMM), has been appointed managing director of the company’s West unit, effective October 1. As the leader of one of HMM’s four business units, Purdon will be responsible for the engineering firm’s growth and development in the Western U.S.

Purdon joined HMM in 2002 in Seattle, as project manager for an elevated section of Sound Transit’s first light rail transit segment. He went on to lead the design of the award-winning Sea-to-Sky Highway design-build-finance-operate project, which was a key commitment in securing the  2010 Winter Olympics for Vancouver and Whistler.

Purdon will fill the position previously held by John Townsend, who has announced his retirement from full-time service. Townsend joined HMM in 1995 as resident engineer for the Red Line extension in Los Angeles, and held a similar role on the multi-award-winning Arrowhead Tunnels project. He will continue to assist HMM with its growth initiatives throughout North America.

HMM’s current projects in the West include the design role for the LA Metro Regional Connector design-build project, engineering and construction management on Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority’s  Silicon Valley Rapid Transit extension, and program management services for the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Project in Seattle.
