Students to be Recognized for Academic Achievements at Las Vegas Conference

The students will receive an award and a grant in an Oct. 27 ceremony

The California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Assn. will bring together water industry professionals across two states to discuss and share solutions for the future. This event will take place Oct. 26 to 29, 2015 at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas. During the Annual Fall Awards Ceremony the section will honor three students for their academic achievements.

The first place doctoral student, Dr. Sirikarn Surawanvijit, is a student at UCLA and has her Ph.D. in chemical engineering. Her dissertation title is “Real-Time Monitoring of Reverse Osmosis Membrane Integrity” and the advisory professor on this work is Professor Yoram Cohen.

The first place finalist in the master's section is Brianna Pagan of Loyola Marymount University who has a M.S. in civil engineering. Her winning thesis is titled “Understanding the Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Water Resources in Southern California”.

Second place in the master’s section goes to John Michael Gonzales from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He has his M.S. in civil and environmental engineering, his winning thesis title is “Fluoride and Phosphate Removal from Industrial and Domestic Wastewaters Using Cerium Chloride”.

These students will be receiving an award and grant on Oct. 27, 2015.
