What is this webinar about?

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a new Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) in January 2021 for industrial storm water discharges. This version of the MSGP contains greatly expanded enforcement for industries who do not meet their sector’s benchmarks. Many states do not currently have equivalent benchmarks and enforcement built into their stormwater programs. As a result, many facilities are going to be caught unprepared when the new regulations are adopted locally.

The primary changes with the 2021 permit are the addition of sampling requirements and the adoption of enforceable benchmarks for industrial stormwater discharges. Enforcement actions are broken down into three tiers, based on frequency and severity of exceedance. The enforcement can range from simple reviews of housekeeping procedures at tier 1, all the way to construction of potentially complex and costly treatment systems at tier 3. Facilities can begin now to start taking steps beyond basic housekeeping to move towards benchmark compliance and avoidance of costly enforcement actions. This webinar will cover the basics of the new Multi-Sector General Permit and discuss cost effective strategies for getting ahead of the new regulations.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the Multi-Sector General Permit’s three-tier approach: How it works and implications for permittees.
  • Learn about simple and cost-effective compliance strategies for facilities to consider first.
  • Leave with treatment solutions for cases when housekeeping is not enough.
