REHAU broadened its range of municipal piping applications with the addition of MUNICIPEX reclaim pipe. The introduction of Municipex reclaim expands the Municipex family of products, which includes water service, force main and pre-insulated pipe, to offer the well-known benefits of this pipe for reclaimed water applications.
This pipe is intended to facilitate water conservation through transporting non-potable reclaimed water from the gray water treatment plant to point-of-use applications. Gray water reuse provides a drought-proof water source that eases water scarcity concerns and lightens the demands placed on alternative water sources. The pipe is meant for use across various markets and aims to participate in gray water reuse, such as irrigation and recreation, industrial applications, fire protection service, residential homes and commercial buildings.
Often referred to as “purple pipe,” Municipex reclaim is cross-linked polyethylene (PEXa) pipe with a purple UV coating. PEXa is a clean, cost-effective municipal piping alternative to copper and HDPE pipe. It is not susceptible to corrosion and mineral buildup, has freeze-break resistance properties, demonstrates impact and abrasion resistance, and has resistance to chlorine and other chemicals.
The long-term strength of MUNICIPEX reclaim is a significant reason why The Water Tower, an educational campus in Georgia dedicated to water utilities research and innovation, decided to use the pipe to supply reclaimed water from a nearby reclamation plant to the campus’s demonstration facility.
“The durability and ease of use of MUNICIPEX reclaim were the biggest selling points for me,” said Chad Wilbanks, strategic director of training and technology at The Water Tower. “If you bend copper and PVC a certain way, it won’t go back. This is not the case with MUNICIPEX because you can bend the pipe in different ways and still bend it back, if needed. The pipe maintains its integrity, and you know you’ve installed durable pipe.”
MUNICIPEX reclaim is available in 1-inch and 2-inch diameters, and is offered in four coil lengths: 100, 300, 500 and 1,000 feet. Other coil lengths are non-standard articles, and are available upon request.
