Pipeline delivers treated water to the Diemer Water Treatment Plant in Yorba Linda

Brown and Caldwell will provide engineering design services for rehabilitation of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) for the Allen-McColloch Pipeline in southern California.

The pipeline delivers treated water to the Diemer Water Treatment Plant in Yorba Linda to El Toro Reservoir in south Orange County, according to a Brown and Caldwell news release. The feeder’s length is 26 miles, and the PCCP is 54 in. to 78 in. in diameter.

The firm will perform preliminary design and prepare drawings for pipeline rehabilitation. According to Brown and Caldwell, the firm will reline the pipeline with seismically resilient liner, replacing valves, flowmeters and as well as other rehabilitation work.

“We are honored to be chosen for this important project. Our committed team looks forward to collaborating with Metropolitan to minimize community and environmental impacts while maximizing the life of existing infrastructure in the most cost-effective and sustainable manner,” said Dave May, Brown and Caldwell program director.

According to Brown and Caldwell, the firm was selected by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan). Metropolitans provides water to 26 agencies that serve 19 million people in Los Angeles, Organ, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Ventura counties.

Metropolitan aims to provide service area with supplies of high-quality water to meet environmental and economical needs. According to Brown and Caldwell, Metropolitan authorized a $2.5 billion PCCP Rehabilitation and Replacement Program to manage PCCP feeders to maintain water was delivered to member agencies.

The pipeline’s design phase is expected to be complete by July 2023. According to Brown and Caldwell, rehabilitation and construction will minimize member agency service connection’s impacts.
