Aftermath leaves trash piled up, locals in temporary housing

Houston and south Texas have started to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Notably, residents are cleaning upor outtheir homes, property and communities. 

The flooding left piles of ruined possessionsclothing, furniture, drywall, etc. According to CBS News, an estimated 8 million cu yd of garbage are piled up in Houston alone. The damages have left more than 50,000 Houston residents in temporary housing. 

What’s more, the health effects of the flooding are still developing. Piles of water-logged belongings and standing water have increased the mosquito populations, threatening the possibility of disease outbreaks like Zika and West Nile virus. 

In the Caribbean, residents are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, which is now a Category 4 storm. At least 18 residents have died due to Irma. Southern Florida is expected to bit hit by the storm by Sept. 10.
