The city of Rowlett, Texas, experienced an unauthorized wastewater discharge from a sanitary sewer manhole. Approximately 77,000 gal of domestic wastewater was discharged into a drainage area.
A clogged sanitary sewer mainline caused the spill, but the clog was removed and the line was cleaned. In addition, the affected area from the discharge was cleaned. However, locals with private water wells within a half mile of the spill site or the potentially affected area are encouraged to only use water that has been distilled or boiled, and homeowners should have their wells tested.
