Powder Coating Technology Optimizes Liquid Storage Tanks

Process works in conjunction with RTP design for optimal performance

Rolled, tapered panel (RTP) design is the strongest and most precise bolted tank design offered in water storage today. Similar to field-welded construction, no external web or vertical stiffeners are required on this design. Bolted RTP construction features exact manufacturing tolerances with sidewall thickness up to 0.5-in. (12.7-mm) plate. Field construction is accomplished utilizing a synchronized, hydraulic screw jack process, which keeps field crews on the ground during installation.

LIQ Fusion 7000 FBE represents today’s powder coating technology specifically tailored for potable water, wastewater and industrial liquid storage applications. This high-performance coating system is formulated from thermosetting resins, binders, pigments and additives to meet today’s water storage requirements for long life, durability, chemical resistance, corrosion protection, flexibility, heat resistance and UV protection. The pre-stages of LIQ Fusion 7000 FBE application are critical in providing the best substrate surface and anchor profile. All bolted steel panels are chemically washed and blasted to an SSPC-SP10 near-white finish. LIQ fusion powder is fed pneumatically from a reservoir into automated spray guns, where a low-amperage, high-voltage charge is imparted to the particles. The bolted panels are grounded, so that the charged particles seek the oppositely charged metal surface. This high-tech powder coating line runs over twice the length of a football field and includes 14 stations, 21 stages and over 110 application processes, checks and inspections. The end result is a high-performance powder coating that can produce a uniform, monolithic, fusion-bonded surface with superior edge and bolt-hole coverage. The LIQ Fusion 7000 FBE is specifically designed to address the deficiencies of glass coatings in water storage applications.

Bolted RTP water storage tanks coated with LIQ Fusion 7000 FBE maintain the lowest life cycle costs in the water tank industry. Quality, cost effectiveness, low maintenance and extended service life represent today’s drivers in global water storage.
