Ford South Africa Awards Water Pump Contract to BorgWarner Emissions/Thermal Systems Joint Venture

Aug. 4, 2003

The BorgWarner Shenglong manufacturing facility, located in Ningbo, China, is now supplying a water pump to the Ford Engine Plant in South Africa. Sales from this contract are expected to be approximately $10 million (8 million Euros) over a four year period from 2003 through 2006. The water pump, manufactured by a joint venture within the Emissions/Thermal Systems group, will be installed on the Ford Rocam engine, which is used on the Ford Fiesta and Ikon passenger cars in Germany and South Africa.

This is the first time the Ford South Africa Engine Plant has ever sourced components from China. Accordingly, BorgWarner Shenglong is the first Chinese component manufacturer to export water pumps to OEM customers abroad. "As a recognized product leader, with global recognition for the highest product quality standards, BorgWarner Shenglong was a logical selection by Ford to address their requirements for the Rocam engine," stated Alan Garner, managing director, Asia for BorgWarner Emissions/Thermal Systems.
