EPA announced more than $2.6 billion through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund for a range of projects to improve wastewater, sanitation, and stormwater infrastructure, according to a press release on WaterWorld.
At the time of this White House press release, the administration noted that a total of $7 billion for this purpose has now been announced.
"Inadequate wastewater or sanitation systems put communities’ health at risk, and in total, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law invests nearly $13 billion in wastewater funding to expand and upgrade these critical systems across the country," the release states.
Additionally, the release points to the Closing America's Wastewater Access Gap Community Initiative as another success for the agency. Since 2022, the release states that EPA and the Department of Agriculture have been working with 11 underserved communities to bridge the gap between capital improvement needs and funding opportunities to complete the work.
On such example is Lowndes County, Alabama, which was awarded an $8.7 billion loan that is 100% forgiveable. This loan, the release states, will fix failing wasteawter infrastructure for 650 homes.
