The Operations Challenge continued at the Chesapeake Water Environment Association Conference in Ocean City, MD. This conference hosted a competition of eight teams and a showdown between two powerhouse competitors: North Texas Water District’s Centrifugal Force and Mount Pleasant, SC’s Controlled Chaos. As always, these two teams put up an impressive show of force and dominated the competition.
Centrifugal Force came in first overall and first in Lab, Safety, Process, and Collections, with a second-place finish in Maintenance. This is the same team that came in first overall at Texas Water earlier this year too.
Controlled Chaos kept up their dominate performance across the Operations Challenge by coming in second overall with second place finishes in Lab, Safety, and Process; a first-place finish in Maintenance; and third in Collections. They’re also the reigning Division 1 champions from last year’s WEFTEC competition, and they competed at the World Water Skills Competition held at IFAT Munich, Germany where they came in third overall. This team knows how to compete with the best.
Both teams showed an amazing performance at Ocean City and will be competing again at the upcoming WEFTEC conference in New Orleans, LA, October 5-9. While we’ll be watching to see if both teams can continue their path of dominance, they face some tough competition that will surely give them a run for the championship.
Some other teams of note to look out for at WEFTEC include:
- Metro Water Recovery’s Elevated Ops
- Metro Water Recovery’s Double Duty
- City of Westminster, CO’s Sewerside Squad
- Trinity River Authority’s TRAilblazers (all female team)
The Operations Challenge at WEFTEC will showcase the best operators our industry has to offer and is guaranteed to be one for the history books. I for one can’t wait to see how all these teams perform and who comes out on top. It’s anyone’s game!
