RJN and Collinsville, Ill., Move Forward on Energy-Efficiency Projects

Feb. 17, 2012

Energy-efficient lighting and motors outfit plant expansions

On behalf of the city of Collinsville, Ill., as part of its wastewater treatment plant expansion project, RJN Group submitted Public Section Energy Efficiency Program (PSEEP) applications and was pre-approved to proceed with the installation of energy-efficient lighting and motors and a new 200-hp turbo aeration blowers for the plant. The expansion project was completed in 2011.

The energy-efficiency projects are funded by Illinois Energy Now, an energy-efficiency program administered by the state of Illinois. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) reviews the initial PSEEP applications for pre-approval, giving the city the ability to proceed with the proposed projects. Once the equipment installation is complete, all documentation is submitted to the DCEO for final review and approval. The city is in the process of submitting the final documentation.

The installation of energy-efficient lighting and motors and new 200 hp turbo aeration blowers will result in both short-term and long-term savings for the city. The initial savings will be from the PSEEP reimbursement to the city. The expected reimbursement for these projects is $56,590. The long-term savings will be seen in the reduced cost of future utility bills and the realization of a greener community.
