LAN to help SAWS improve its water distribution and sanitary sewer collection system

The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) has selected planning, engineering and program management firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) as a design consultant to improve its water distribution and sanitary sewer collection system.

The largest municipally-owned water and wastewater utility in the San Antonio/Bexar County (Calif.) area, SAWS provides service to more than 1.8 million residents within the corporate limits of the city and Bexar County. With SAWS recently integrating with the BexarMet Water System, numerous segments of water mains are in need of rehabilitation, replacement or reconstruction to meet SAWS standards. Also, SAWS is upgrading its aging sewer infrastructure to comply with the consent decree settlement agreement approved in June 2013 with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Current projects implemented as part of this Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract include replacement of 28,000 linear ft of 12-in. water line and sanitary sewer rehabilitation of approximately 10,000 linear ft of pipe ranging from eight to 48 in. The projects will be done using trenchless methods such as pipe bursting, cured in place pipe (CIPP) as well as conventional open cut construction methods.
