Aclara Meters announced that it has been awarded a contract by Consolidated Edison Company of NY, Inc. and Orange and Rockland (O&R) Utilities, Inc., both regulated operating companies of Consolidated Edison, Inc., to supply electric smart meters for an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project covering New York City, Westchester County and Orange and Rockland counties.
Pending regulatory approval by the New York Public Service Commission, Aclara Meters will provide electric smart meters that will connect 3.9 million customers to the new AMI system. These meters feature technology that will enable Con Edison and O&R to optimize voltage levels, reduce manual meter-reading, reduce energy consumption and minimize greenhouse gas emissions.
Importantly, the electric smart meters benefit customers by enhancing network reliability and enabling the utilities’ outage management systems to automatically detect problems and determine the scope and location of outages to speed restoration of service.
Awarding of the contract comes approximately two months after the acquisition of Aclara Meters, GE Energy Management’s Grid Solutions electricity meters business, by Aclara Technologies, LLC, a supplier of smart infrastructure technologies to electric, water and gas utilities globally.
