Alan Baxter Joins Arcadis North America
Arcadis North America announced the appointment of Alan Baxter as the company’s new city executive for Chicago. In his role at Arcadis, Baxter will be responsible for expanding the company’s market presence in the Chicago region and leading the firm’s delivery of pioneering engineering solutions and capabilities to serve a growing client base. As an industry leader in building and construction, Baxter brings more than 30 years of program and project management experience to the role.
Baxter has been instrumental in the delivery of many of Chicago’s key construction projects, including the Public Building Commission’s $2.4 billion Capital Construction Program, the Housing Authority’s $1.6 billion Plan for Transformation, and the Rehabilitation Institute’s $570 million New Research Hospital.
His professional expertise includes environmental consulting, construction management, program development, contract negotiations, building assessments and architectural design. For the past nine years, Baxter has served as a program executive in the Arcadis pharmaceutical program, aligning Arcadis with some of Chicagoland’s most significant corporations in the private sector relating to healthcare.
“We are delighted to welcome Alan to our city executive team as we continue to invest in Chicago leadership to better serve our clients as we work to improve quality of life for Chicago communities in the areas of infrastructure, water, environment and buildings in both public and private sectors,” said John Batten, global cities director for Arcadis. “His previous in-depth experience and knowledge of the Chicago market makes him perfectly suited for bringing the Arcadis offering to a variety of client sectors across the region.”
“Large opportunities exist in Chicago in the area of urban sustainability, with some key projects already underway, including enhancements in water infrastructure and transportation networks,” said Baxter. “Chicago is a thriving city. Arcadis already has a strong presence and we are in a good position to capitalize on the city’s urban plans as well as the thriving industries. I am excited to lead our efforts to strengthen Arcadis’ market position and relationship with the city and its people.”
Baxter holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.
